Lymphatic congestion, according to Aajonus Vonderplanitz, is a condition in which the lymphatic system becomes physically blocked, hardened, and unable to flow properly through the body. It is caused by toxicity accumulated in the lymphatic system, especially in the glands and nodes. The lymph system feeds every cell in the body except red and white blood cells, and the lymphatic system is simultaneously responsible for neutralizing toxins, reducing toxins to smaller substances, and eliminating them through tear ducts, ears (wax), mucous membranes, bowels, vagina, urinary tract, and especially skin.
Aajonus's Definition
The lymphatic system is not a minor or secondary system. It is as complex as the bloodstream and the neurological system. It is a full circulatory system unto itself, with capillary-type endings in the skin and throughout every microscopic particle of the body. It permeates everywhere throughout the system. There are little nodes, thousands of them, hundreds of thousands of them, spread throughout the body. The nodes range anywhere from the size of a pinhead to the size of a pellet. The lymph glands are anywhere from the size of a pea to a large bean. The glands are less frequent; there may be about a thousand lymphatic glands in the body.
The major gland networks of the lymphatic system are located in the neck, partially in the face, in the breast area, and in the groin area. These are the major networks of lymph glands. The largest concentration of nodes and glands is in the crotch area and the thigh, then the breast and underarm area, and then the neck. This is why so much cancer happens in the breast, groin, and throat, because the lymph gets congested in these locations, especially with toxic resins from vegetable fats.
The lymph fluid itself is a translucent substance. The lymphatic system is predominantly fat, it is 60% to 80% fat. That is why it is vulnerable to toxic oils that harden at body temperature. When these oils accumulate in the lymphatic system, they do not remain fluid. They crystallize, solidify, and block the channels in the lymph glands and nodes. The system becomes physically hardened, like a hard stick of butter in a jar, and cannot flow.
In this congested, hardened state, the lymphatic system loses its ability to do either of its two primary jobs: (1) feeding every cell in the body and (2) removing all waste products and neutralizing all toxic substances. When the lymph system is congested, it is reduced to doing only its secondary function, cleaning the body, and even that it does poorly and incompletely. The primary function of feeding every cell in the body is effectively lost.
This is not a minor malfunction. Aajonus states unequivocally: the lymph system feeds every cell in the body. When it is not working, every cell in the body is starving. And when it is not cleansing properly, all waste and toxins back up into the connective tissue, the blood, the neurological fluid, the bones, the tendons, everywhere in the body.
In iridology readings Aajonus performed on individuals, he observed lymphatic congestion appearing as white splotching in the iris, light flotching everywhere, indicating congestion throughout the torso, down the legs, all over the body. He observed cases where the congestion was systemic, where the lymph was described as almost solid, and cases where the congestion was concentrated in specific areas such as the intestines, the chest, around the heart, or around specific glands and nodes.
There is also an important distinction Aajonus makes between two related but different states. Lymphatic waste is the material that is in the connective tissue being dumped under the skin to be perspired, that is the normal process of toxin elimination. Lymphatic congestion is different: it is when the lymphatic system itself is jammed, when the glands and the nodes and the lymph channels are blocked and cannot flow. These two conditions require somewhat different durations of treatment with hot baths.

Root Cause
The root cause of lymphatic congestion, according to Aajonus, is the accumulation of hydrogenated vegetable oils, trans fatty acids, and related plastic fats in the lymphatic system. These substances are not digestible by the human body, and because the lymphatic system is predominantly fat, these oils concentrate there and harden.
Aajonus traces the emergence of lymphatic congestion as a widespread condition to the early 1960s, when margarine and processed vegetable oils became a dominant part of the food supply. He states explicitly: we never heard of lymphatic congestion until the late 1960s. It was an unheard-of thing. What happened in the early 1960s? Margarine. Vegetable oils.
Here is the specific physiological mechanism Aajonus describes:
When a person eats vegetable oil, bile is secreted onto it and barely etches it. The oil does not digest. It passes through the system partially broken down by mutant bacteria the body manufactures to deal with it. If the vegetable oil is cooked, it is digested even less. If it is raw, it is not digested at all in the human body. This is because human beings are not herbivores. Herbivores have body temperatures of 101 to 105 degrees, two to four stomachs (up to eight compartments), they chew their cud, swallow, regurgitate, and re-chew. They take 48 hours to properly break down vegetable fats. Human beings have one stomach with two compartments. Vegetation passes through us in a minimum of 24 hours. We cannot properly break down vegetable oils. When a person eats those oils, they pass into the lymphatic system, which is 60 to 80 percent fat, and there they accumulate.
The specific oils and substances Aajonus identifies as causal agents in lymphatic congestion are: - Margarine (hydrogenated vegetable oil, the primary culprit) - Vegetable oils (all pressed oils used in cooking) - Soy oils - Safflower oils - Peanut oil and peanut butter - Flavoring additives - Preservatives - Pesticides and herbicides - Medications and pharmaceutical chemicals
He specifies that hydrogenated vegetable oils are trans fatty acids that share the same molecular structure as plastic. He says explicitly: that is how you make plastic, you take petroleum oil or vegetable oil and expose it to certain industrial chemical reactions and you have plastic. Hydrogenated vegetable oil is a plastic fat. So it crystallizes very quickly in the human body, solidifies, and creates a blocked lymphatic system.
These oils and combinations harden over time, the timeline he gives is 5 to 20 years, and are not fluid at body temperature. The human body temperature of 98.6°F is not high enough to melt them. Even internal heat from exercise or saunas cannot raise the deep internal lymphatic temperature high enough, because the body has mechanisms to cool itself when there is air space. Only full immersion in hot water can raise the body temperature sufficiently to melt these hardened fats.
He names the specific sources from which people accumulate these oils: potato chips, french fries, donuts, pizza, cereals, anything fried in those oils, anything made with processed oils. He says everyone has eaten some form of these foods, and therefore everyone has hardened fats in their lymphatic system and probably in their connective tissue.
Beyond oils, Aajonus also identifies medications, particularly vaccines, as contributing significantly to lymphatic congestion. He describes in iris readings seeing vaccine-related toxicity stored in the sternum and metal deposits outside the heart, with the lymph around the heart and left chest area all the way to the neck being very congested. He also describes mercury from vaccines and other medications stored in the endocrine gland system as contributing to related conditions such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.
Additional toxic substances that jam the lymphatic system include: lead, cadmium, manganese, mercury, aluminum, cement dust, mortar dust, environmental metals, and industrial chemical exposures. These accumulate in the lymph glands and nodes, clogging channels and further blocking flow.
He also connects dietary deficiency to lymphatic congestion. Because the lymphatic system is 60 to 80 percent fat, it requires the right kinds of fats to remain fluid and functional. Animal fats, raw butter, cream, coconut cream, are the proper fats for the lymphatic system. Vegetable oils displace and harden; animal fats nourish and maintain fluidity.

Why This Happens
Lymphatic congestion sits at the intersection of multiple principles in Aajonus's framework.
Root Cause / Terrain Theory: Lymphatic congestion is the foundational terrain condition. It is the mechanism by which the body's two primary cleanup and nourishment systems, lymphatic feeding and lymphatic cleansing, fail. The terrain becomes toxic and malnourished simultaneously because the same system responsible for both functions is blocked.
Cooked Food / Processed Food: The direct cause is cooked and processed vegetable oils, which cannot be digested by the human body and accumulate as plastic-like deposits in the lymphatic system. This is a direct consequence of the industrialized, processed food supply beginning in the 1960s.
Detoxification: Lymphatic congestion is the central problem in detoxification. When the lymph is congested, the body cannot properly neutralize and remove toxins. Toxins back up into the connective tissue, are recycled through the digestive system, and damage every tissue they pass through. The lymphatic bath protocol is the central detoxification strategy Aajonus prescribes.
Cancer: Aajonus states directly: the natural cure for cancer is to get the lymphatic system fed properly and working. Cancer always occurs because the lymphatic system is not fed the fats it needs to make the biological solvents necessary to dissolve dead cells, and the lymphatic system and/or skin is blocked and malnourished. Most blockages that cause cancer originate in lymphatic congestion. The major lymph gland networks in the neck, breast, and groin are exactly where cancer most commonly arises, because the congestion is heaviest there.
Microbes: Without a functioning lymphatic system, the body turns to alternative biological agents, bacteria, fungus, to try to accomplish the dissolving and cleansing work that the lymph cannot do. The body uses bacteria in the lymphatic system to break down cells. The body uses fungus when bacteria are not prominent enough. Cells make solvents called viruses (which Aajonus says are not alive and are not external pathogens but internally generated). All of this microbial activity is a consequence of lymphatic failure.
How to Live: The lymphatic bath protocol is a core lifestyle practice in Aajonus's framework, not a treatment to be applied temporarily, but an ongoing practice for anyone living in the modern industrial world, because everyone has lymphatic congestion.
---
Symptoms Reframed
Aajonus does not interpret the symptoms of lymphatic congestion as diseases or disorders in themselves but as expressions of a single underlying condition: a blocked, hardened lymphatic system that cannot feed cells or remove waste.
The official symptoms he identifies are: - Muscle and/or bone soreness - Skin problems, including psoriasis and eczema - Chronic fatigue - Chemical sensitivity
In his expanded framework, the consequences of lymphatic congestion include:
Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia: The people Aajonus knows who have the most chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia have a congested lymphatic system. He says he has seen it in every case. If the lymph system is congested, the body is starving, every cell is being underfed, and simultaneously accumulating waste it cannot remove. The result is profound fatigue, aches, cramps, soreness in muscle and bone, gas formation, tissue soreness, and inability to transport oxygen. Lethargy. All kinds of problems.
AIDS: A congested lymphatic system will lead the person into fatigue, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, AIDS, and the illusory immune condition that medicine cannot identify. The immune system, as Aajonus frames it, is the lymph system. If the lymph system is blocked, the immune system fails.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) and lupus: If a person begins mobilizing congested lymphatics without having sufficient fat and connective tissue to buffer the dumped toxins, the toxins will deteriorate the connective tissue. This leads to lupus, disintegration of the connective tissue, and MS. He warns specifically: if you have a congested lymphatic system and you don't have the fat and connective tissue to prevent damage, you will deteriorate the connective tissue and you will have lupus.
Muscular dystrophy: Also listed as a consequence of a sufficiently blocked lymphatic system.
Cancer: As described above, the lymphatic gland networks in the neck, breast, and groin become congested, lose passage of fluids in and out, and cancer develops there. The cancer is always a consequence of the lymph being unable to dissolve dead cells and being unable to perform its cleansing function.
Skin conditions: Acne, rashes, hives, burns on the skin, these are expressions of the lymphatic system dumping waste into the connective tissue that it cannot properly neutralize before dumping. When the lymphatic system is deficient or blocked and it dumps incompletely neutralized waste into the connective tissue to be perspired through the skin, it causes tremendous damage to the skin on the way out. The person gets acne, rashes, hives, and even burn-like reactions.
Rapid aging: Aajonus describes lymphatic congestion as causing aging to accelerate very rapidly. He states this in the context of a reading where he says the intestinal tract is "already started" aging, that from there "it will go fast, because it causes everything else to dry up quickly." The lymph system must be moved rapidly to halt this accelerated deterioration.
Earaches: With heavy metal deposits and lymphatic congestion around the ears, earaches develop when cleaning begins.
Swollen glands: Swollen lymph glands, which people can feel and which are apparent in enlarged tonsils, for example, are a sign of congestion. Aajonus notes his own tonsils were removed at three years old and have been enlarged ever since.
Back trouble and hot flashes: These are listed among specific problems that relate to lymphatic congestion in the context of lymphatic bath discussions.
Obesity and tissue swelling: Aajonus demonstrates in workshops by examining a person's arm, showing it is three times what it should be in a woman, as waste backing up because the lymph cannot dump it. If the lymph system cannot remove waste, the waste simply accumulates and the body gets larger and larger.
Intestinal dysfunction: With severe lymphatic congestion, the bowels are not being fed properly through the lymphatic system, and they cannot function properly.
Poor circulation and tissue dehydration: The intestinal tract begins to resemble beef jerky, it dries up, because it is not being fed properly by the lymph.
Tumor development and fibroids: In specific readings, Aajonus identifies signs of tumor development or fibroids associated with areas of heavy lymphatic congestion, such as in the bronchioles of the right lung. He describes the congestion as "starting to harden" in such cases.
Contamination throughout all body systems: If the lymph system cannot remove waste, the vacuum bags, as he metaphorically describes the glands and nodes, fill completely. Then the waste spills into the blood, the neurological fluid, the bones, the connective tissue of the bones, the tendons, everywhere. The entire system becomes contaminated.

Food Protocol
Aajonus's food protocol for lymphatic congestion operates on two tracks simultaneously: (1) supporting the body with nutrients that keep the lymphatic system fluid and functional, and (2) the lymphatic bath protocol with a specific formula consumed in conjunction with each bath.
This is the central food protocol for lymphatic congestion. Aajonus developed this formula specifically to prevent the melted lymphatic congestion from rehardening once the bath is finished and the body temperature returns to normal (98.6°F and below).
The formula as given: - ¼ to 1 cup of unripe pineapple - 3 to 6 tablespoons coconut cream - 1 to 3 tablespoons unsalted raw butter - 1 to 2 tablespoons raw dairy cream - A little bit of honey (optional, in some versions)
All measured ingredients should be equal amounts relative to the suggested range, that is, if you use ¼ cup pineapple, use the smaller quantities of the other ingredients; if you use 1 cup pineapple, use the larger quantities.
When to take it: The book originally said to drink it immediately upon entering the hot bath. This was later amended: it should be consumed as a fruit meal during the day, but not necessarily immediately upon entering. In workshop discussions, Aajonus says to drink it before you get into the bath, or as soon as you get into the bath. The critical function is that this mixture be in the system while the lymph is being mobilized by the heat, so it mixes into the lymph as it moves, and then keeps the mobilized lymphatic material from rehardening as the body cools.
The coconut cream explained: Coconut cream is the juice from the hard pulp of mature coconut meat. You grind and juice fresh mature coconut meat, separating the pulp from the cream.
For severe congestion, the specific formula variant is: about a half to three-quarters of a cup of unripe pineapple, about 3 ounces of coconut cream, about half a tablespoon of butter, and about a tablespoon of dairy cream. A little bit of honey if you like, to help dissolve some of the lymphatic congestion.
Pineapple is essential and specific: Aajonus repeatedly emphasizes that unripe pineapple is the important ingredient. Not ripe pineapple, unripe. The unripe pineapple is an important part of that. Pineapple is a very important part. In other contexts he prescribes pineapple specifically for the lymphatic system, noting that pineapple is needed for the lymphatic system.
Why this combination works: Once the bath has melted a thin layer of the hardened lymphatic material, the fat-based congestion that has been hardened into the system, that melted material is going to be dumped into the connective tissue. If the formula is in the system, it mixes into the lymph with the 45-minute walk afterward, and the less hard it is going to be when the body cools. Without this formula, as soon as the body temperature goes back down to 98.6°F and lower, the mobilized lymphatic material all of a sudden goes hard again.
Long lymphatic baths (primary): - Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours (60 to 90 minutes) - Temperature: 102°F (39°C) to 105°F (41°C), no hotter than 105°F, and must be kept steady within that range for the entire duration - Frequency: every 3 to 4 days (which works out to approximately 2 times per week) - Never closer than 3 days apart
Important note about timing during the bath: - It takes 45 minutes of immersion before the body is heated deeply enough to get to the lymphatic system - Another 10 minutes to approximately an hour until the person is actually getting some of the lymphatic material mobilized, just the surface area, just under the skin - To get deep to the glands and nodes and the major circulatory channels of the lymphatic system, 90 minutes is required - The first 60 minutes begins softening and moving some of it out of the lymph glands and nodes, after 90 minutes you have a good, just a thin layer of all that mobilized - The analogy: imagine a jar with a cold stick of butter in the center. Put it in warm water, just the outside starts melting a little. The inside is still hard and cold. Just around the glass, a fine layer melts. You stay in for 60 to 90 minutes to keep that happening.
The distinction by congestion severity: - When a person has only superficial congestion, just a block under the skin without the lymph glands and nodes being jammed, a 40-minute bath minimum is required to perspire it out of the connective tissue - When the lymph glands and nodes and the whole lymph system are jammed, 90 minutes minimum is required - Aajonus says: go for the whole 90 minutes regardless
Short baths (secondary, connective tissue clearing): - Duration: 30 to 35 minutes (or 35 to 40 minutes in some descriptions) - Temperature: same range, 102°F to 105°F - Frequency: on the days between long lymphatic baths, every other day that a long bath is not taken - Purpose: The long lymphatic bath mobilizes congestion and dumps it into the connective tissue. The short baths then perspire that mobilized waste out of the connective tissue before the next long bath. If this step is not taken, the connective tissue begins to accumulate the dumped waste and can lead to MS and lupus. - This is information Aajonus says was not complete to him when he wrote the book, so it is not in the original book. He found approximately 1 out of every 20 people who started developing congestion in the connective tissue because they were only doing the long baths without the shorter connective-tissue-clearing baths.
After the bath: - Get out of the bath, sit down slowly - Dry off, bundle up, put on long underwear - Take a 45-minute walk - This walk is essential: it gets the lymphatic material softened and moving further, and the more it mixes in the lymph with the walk, the less hard it is going to be when the body cools - Even if the walk is as slow as a snail, it doesn't matter the pace, it matters that movement occurs - After the walk, if feeling weak, take a nap - Eat meat and butter, a lubrication formula
The ice pack for the head during the bath: - The brain hates to be hot. It also hates to be cold. If the temperature becomes too uncomfortable for the brain, the person will feel compelled to get out. - Solution: get a cold ice pack (like a yarmulke style), put it on the head while sitting in the hot tub. If it gets too cold, put a pad on top or something to buffer it. - This allows the body to stay in the hot water for the full 60 to 90 minutes despite the brain's discomfort signals.
Aajonus describes an elderly man who came to him, the founder of a stem cell company, who was chronically fatigued and retired, couldn't do anything. He started the diet for six months, then started the hot baths about a year later. Aajonus told him to do an hour and a half lymphatic bath two days a week, as it says in the book. However, there was a misprint in the first printing of the book: it said 110 degrees instead of 101 (a typo). This man did 110 degrees, an hour and a half, every day for three months.
He called Aajonus and said: I'm still a slug, all I can do is get up...
He had been doing one every day for almost three and a half months. Aajonus said: my God, stop.
The instruction Aajonus gave: do them only two days a week. You can do short ones, 30 to 35 minutes, a day for the other days, because the lymphatic system will dump its poisons into the connective tissue, and then you have to perspire it out of the connective tissue.
This man subsequently did the diet for six months, started the hot baths, did three months of baths, and then all of a sudden, from 70 to 71 years old, started a company and built an incredible business. Aajonus says: incredible what the body can do with the right nutrients and if you know how to clean the body properly.
Aajonus issues a critical warning: if you've got a congested lymphatic system, you need to do something about it as soon as you have the weight. If you don't have the weight, don't do it. If you have that kind of congestion coming out of your system and you don't have the fat and the connective tissue to prevent damage in the connective tissue, then you will deteriorate the connective tissue and you have lupus.
The fat and connective tissue act as buffers for the toxins that the lymphatic system dumps during mobilization. Without sufficient buffering, the mobilized toxins damage the connective tissue directly.
Coconut cream and pineapple generally: Even on days without a long bath, pineapple every other day is fine when taking baths every day. If doing baths only twice a week, the pineapple-coconut cream mixture against lymphatic congestion needs to be taken during those bath sessions.
Unripe pineapple for the lymphatic system: Pineapple is specifically called out as important for keeping the lymphatic system from hardening. It is not just a bath formula ingredient, it supports lymphatic function generally.
Raw meat: Essential for rebuilding the body and for giving the lymphatic system the materials it needs to function. Aajonus recommends meat percentages calibrated to individual condition, he typically prescribes higher red meat percentages (50% to 75%) for people with significant lymphatic congestion who are also somewhat anemic, with the remainder being white meat, fish, or fowl.
Raw butter: A lubricating fat essential for the lymphatic system. Consumed with meat meals and with cheese. Also part of the bath formula.
Raw dairy cream: Part of the bath formula and used generally to support fat stores and lymphatic fluid quality.
Milk: General support. In some protocols, one and a half quarts of milk a day and one and a half quarts of sport formula. Also, a cup of milk at night with an extra tablespoon of cream.
Cheese and honey: For people with lymphatic congestion accompanied by digestive disruption, cheese with honey helps the digestive system function and also helps draw out poisons. Aajonus prescribes specific amounts, for example, 7 tablespoons of cheese with 5½ teaspoons of honey twice daily, and 3 tablespoons of cheese with 2 teaspoons of honey at night. Cheese eaten with honey helps it digest, otherwise the cheese may not be digested. If the cheese causes constipation, eat a little coconut cream with it or some butter.
Sport formula (the lubrication formula): Contains vinegar, milk (3 to 4 ounces), and possibly other components. A tablespoon of vinegar with about 3 to 4 ounces of milk, once every other day around 6 o'clock, is mentioned for those with plaque and congestion issues.
Juice formulas, specific to individual readings: - For certain individuals: 70% celery, 10% parsley, 10% zucchini, 10% cucumber - For certain individuals: 85% celery, 15% parsley, described as "clean for building, strengthening" - For certain individuals: 70% celery, 10% carsley, 10% parsley, 10% zucchini, with 3 glasses of 12 ounces and one glass of 8 ounces daily (the 8 ounce at noon, the 12 ounce glasses at other times) - For those with metals in the brain or heart: 4 sprigs of cilantro with a meat meal about every 4th day only
Raspberries: Specifically mentioned as very good for certain types of lymphatic congestion.
Raw organ meats: Bowel from buffalo or cow (organically grown), eating a little of the fecal matter, is recommended for people whose bowels are not functioning properly because the lymphatic system is not feeding them. This bypasses the lymphatic system requirement and helps the bowels survive without needing lymphatic nourishment.
Cherries and red berries: Mentioned in the context of helping clear metals from the lungs that are contributing to congestion.
Eggs and ginger: Also mentioned in the context of removing metals associated with lymphatic problems.
Hot water bottles: For localized lymphatic congestion (such as around the heart, chest, sternum), applying hot water bottles nightly, at least three nights a week, helps facilitate detoxification of lymph and allows the lymph to properly remove vaccine and metallic toxicity from the area. For very congested lymph around the heart and left chest area, he says this could take 20 to 30 years without heat application, but heat applied almost nightly can significantly accelerate this.
Water, very limited: One person with significant lymphatic congestion is told they could have maybe a half a cup of water a day, only an ounce at a time, spread out every four hours. A little straight water helps because the cells need a little more solvent reaction to help clean out the lymphatic congestion. This is exceptional, generally Aajonus does not recommend water.

What to Avoid
- iHydrogenated vegetable oils in any form:
This is the primary cause of lymphatic congestion. Margarine, vegetable shortening, all processed oils, these must be completely eliminated. They are plastic fats that crystallize in the body and block the lymphatic system.
- iiVegetable oils generally:
Even unhydrogenated pressed vegetable oils, soy oil, safflower oil, peanut oil, these are not digestible by the human body at human body temperatures and accumulate in the lymphatic system.
- iiiPeanut butter:
Specifically named as contributing to lymphatic congestion.
- ivAll processed and fast food:
Potato chips, french fries, donuts, pizza, cereals, anything fried or processed, all contain the trans fatty acids and hydrogenated oils that cause lymphatic hardening.
- vMedications and pharmaceuticals:
These chemical substances accumulate in the lymphatic system and glands, contributing to congestion. Vaccine toxicity is specifically identified as creating lymphatic congestion around the heart, sternum, and chest.
- viPesticides and herbicides:
Accumulate in the lymphatic system in combination with hydrogenated oils and harden there.
- viiPreservatives and food additives:
Flavoring additives and preservatives are named as contributors.
- viiiTrampolines and rebounding exercises (as a substitute for baths):
Aajonus is very direct: you could jump all day and it is not going to help if the lymphatic system is jammed, clogged, and hardened. Great idea if the lymph is already fluid and working properly, but you have to melt it in the bath first and then do exercises if you want. The lymph system is hardened like plastic, bouncing on a trampoline cannot move it.
- ixSaunas and steam baths (mostly):
Saunas are not healthy when you perspire, because they dehydrate and dry the skin and damage the skin. Unless you get out every 3 minutes and thoroughly shower each time. The critical problem with saunas is that because there is air space around the body, the body's cooling mechanism prevents the internal lymphatic temperature from ever getting above 100 to 100.6°F. Full immersion in hot water is the only way to raise the deep internal temperature sufficiently to melt the hardened lymphatic congestion.
- xOverdoing the long baths (more than twice a week without the short connective tissue baths):
As demonstrated by the case of the elderly man who did daily 90-minute baths at 110 degrees for three and a half months and remained a slug, too frequent long baths without allowing the connective tissue to clear produces no benefit and may cause harm. Never do long lymphatic baths more frequently than every 3 days. Never closer than 3 days apart.
- xiHot springs (as a potential substitute):
One person asks about going to a hot springs for a week, doing it 3 to 4 times a day. The sources do not contain Aajonus's direct answer to this, but the general principle he teaches is that chemical-free hot water immersion in the right temperature range is the mechanism, natural hot springs without chemicals could be consistent with the protocol if temperatures and durations are appropriate.
- xiiCucumber and watermelon rind in juice:
These turn the intestinal tract alkaline and interfere with the digestion of dairy, eggs, and meat, which are the most important foods for someone rebuilding the lymphatic system. Peel the cucumber; don't use watermelon rind.
- xiiiVegetables mixed with meat:
They neutralize the digestion of each other. This applies broadly to the Primal Diet, but specifically for lymphatically congested individuals who need to extract maximum nutrition from their meat and dairy to support the lymphatic system.
- xivFruit in excess:
For some individuals with certain types of lymphatic congestion, fruit should be reduced to once every other day as a minimum, at approximately 5% of the diet.
- xvDoing lymphatic baths without sufficient body fat:
Thin people must not start the lymphatic bath protocol until they have built up sufficient fat and connective tissue to buffer the toxins mobilized by the baths. Without this buffer, the mobilized toxins will deteriorate the connective tissue and produce lupus.

Recovery Timeline
Aajonus is very direct that reversing lymphatic congestion takes time. The timeline varies significantly by the severity of congestion, the individual's constitution, and their adherence to both the dietary and bath protocols.
The general timeline for melting hardened lymphatic congestion: - It may take 10 years to dissolve all of the lymphatic congestion with consistent lymphatic baths - Without the baths, normally it takes 40 years, even on the Primal Diet - The diet alone is important for slowly reversing lymphatic congestion, but the baths dramatically accelerate the process
What happens in each bath: - Each long bath melts approximately a thousandth of an inch layer of the hardened congestion from around the lymph glands and channels - Each session mobilizes a thin layer, like the outside of a cold stick of butter placed in warm water, just the outside edge melts while the inside remains hard and cold - The process must be repeated consistently over years to work through the accumulated hardening of 5 to 20 years of trans fat accumulation
The early phase, feeling worse before better: - People may feel very weak and sluggish after baths, especially early in the protocol - When getting back from the 45-minute walk, taking a nap is recommended - The detoxification symptoms, fatigue, rashes, aches, will be present as toxins mobilize
The medium-term case study: - A 69-year-old man with prostate cancer, failing thyroid, and who had refused pharmaceutical hormones started the Primal Diet - Six months on the diet - Started hot baths about a year after beginning the diet - Three months of consistent baths - Went from chronically fatigued and unable to function in retirement to starting and building a successful company at 71 years old
For people with significant congestion: - Two years on the diet before doing anything beyond baths to relieve the congestion - The baths themselves are the primary intervention, with the diet supporting the process - During this time, the person may feel very weak and sluggish after baths, rest and nourishment (meat, butter) are the response
Localized congestion around the heart and chest: - For vaccine-related toxicity stored in the sternum and metal deposits outside the heart with heavy lymph congestion around the heart and left chest area: - With hot water bottles applied almost nightly: timeline for relief is still stated as 20 to 30 years - Without heat application: the same 20 to 30 years with far less progress - The heat (hot water bottles) facilitates detoxification so that the lymph can properly remove the vaccine and metallic toxicity from the chest area, relieving pain through each day until about 5 PM
The pattern of detox events: - In the beneficial_home_baths.txt source, a husband and wife team started lymphatic baths at the same time they started the Primal Diet and completed several full detoxification cycles, which are described as completed detoxifications in the text - Aajonus describes these detox events as the body going through episodes of mobilization and release as it progressively works through layers of accumulated congestion
For people with cancer-related or tumor-level congestion: - Starting the baths as soon as possible to get the lymph cleaned so the body can begin breaking down tumors or fibroids - Even in cases where congestion is starting to harden in specific areas (like the bronchioles), getting the baths going quickly is essential - Two years on the diet before adding interventions beyond baths
What accelerates recovery: - Consistent baths every 3 to 4 days (approximately twice a week) - The short connective-tissue-clearing baths (30 to 35 minutes) on the other days - The 45-minute walk after each long bath - The pineapple/coconut cream/butter/cream formula taken before or upon entering the bath - Eating a balanced Primal Diet (especially raw meats, fats, dairy) - Hot water bottles for localized congestion areas on non-bath nights
What does not work: - Trampoline/rebounding, will not move hardened lymphatic congestion - Diet alone, takes 40 years even on the Primal Diet without baths - Exercise alone, cannot raise internal lymphatic temperature sufficiently - Saunas without frequent cold showers, dehydrate and damage skin without reaching deep lymphatic temperature

Questions Aajonus Answered
- On the difference between long and short baths:
Q: What is the difference between the long ones and the short ones done intermittently? What is the purpose of the short ones? What do they accomplish compared to the long ones?
A (Aajonus): The lymphatic baths in the We Want To Live second edition, the revised edition of 2005, talks about lymphatic congestion and lymphatic baths. Lymphatic baths are when you take a bath for sixty to ninety minutes. That's one to one and a half hours. You have to keep the water at least a hundred and two degrees, no hotter than a hundred and five, and you have to keep it steady within that range for that entire sixty to ninety minutes. The reason for that is you've got congested, everybody has, congested lymphatics. [The short baths, 30 to 35 minutes, are for clearing the connective tissue of the waste dumped there by the long baths, perspiring it out before doing another long lymphatic bath.]
- On trampolines and rebounding:
Q (from Primal Diet Newsletter #29, July 7, 2012): Trampoline/rebounding and lymphatic flow?
A (Aajonus): You could jump all day and it's not going to help if the lymphatic system is jammed, clogged, and hardened; great idea if already fluid and working properly. You have to melt it in the bath and then do your exercises if you want.
- On a person with almost solid lymphatic system:
Q (in workshop reading): [Response to iridology reading showing severe lymphatic congestion, "your lymphatic system is almost solid"]
A (Aajonus): You need to take hot baths. I explain the baths for lymphatic detoxification in the new book. So do that, and eat that formula with the pineapple before you get into the bath. You definitely have to do 45 minutes of walking. I don't care if it's like a snail. So you get out of that bath, you know, 45 minutes to an hour and a half. In there, you're going to feel like a wet noodle. You know, lymph noodles. Get out, sit down slowly, dry up, bundle up, long underwear, get out and take a walk. You have to melt that lymphatic congestion down, because that's going to start aging you very rapidly. It's already started almost the entire intestinal tract on your left side, small intestines. And, you know, from there it will go fast, because it causes everything else to dry up quickly. So lymphatic congestion has to be moved rapidly, soon. Everything else looks like it's going to respond quicker, but that lymphatic system, the lymph system feeds every cell in the body, and it removes all the toxicity. So if that's not working well, the whole system can break down, even though the rest of it is genetically pretty sound.
- On the person who overdid the baths:
Q (from workshop): [Implicit question about why the elderly man was still a slug after months of daily 90-minute baths]
A (Aajonus): [When the man called and reported still being a slug despite doing the bath every day for almost three and a half months:] My God, stop. Do them only two days a week. You can do short ones, 30, 35 minutes a day for the other days because the lymphatic system will dump their poisons into the connective tissue. Then you have to perspire it out of the connective tissue. Now when I wrote the book, I didn't have that piece of information, it wasn't complete to me. So I don't say in my book, have the 30, 35 minutes every other day that you don't have the long lymphatic baths, to clean the connective tissue. And I found probably about, you know, one out of 20 people who are starting to develop congestion in their connective tissue. And that can lead to MS and lupus, which is disintegration [of the connective tissue].
- On a person with tumor development and fibroids in the right lung:
Q (in workshop reading, directed at person identified as having not yet started the diet): [After Aajonus identifies in iridology reading signs of tumor development or fibroids in the right lung bronchioles, with congestion starting to harden, and lots of metals]
A (Aajonus): So you need to get that lymph cleaned as soon as possible so that you can start breaking that down. It's even starting to harden. Lots of metals. But you'll be on the diet 2 years before you go into doing anything other than the baths to relieve the lymphatic congestion. And you know you might feel very weak and sluggish, you know, after one of those baths. Just when you get back from that walk, you take a nap. A good nap. Eat the meat and butter, you know, a lubrication formula. And your juice I recommend that you have no cilantro, just a straight 85% celery, 15% parsley. Clean for building. Strengthening you. About 14 to 16 ounces by weight of meat a day. And I recommend about 75% red and 25% white.
- On lymphatic congestion and chest pain / vaccine toxicity:
Q (from email, March 4, 2011, person uncertain about heart attack or stroke):
A (Aajonus): I just checked your irises and you have a load of vaccine-related toxicity stored in your sternum slightly to the right side, and on the left side you have metal deposits just outside your heart that look like some type of inhaled exposure. The lymph around your heart and left chest area all the way to your neck is very congested. It will take 20-30 years to remove that congestion unless you apply heat (hot water bottles) to the area almost nightly. Your heart is in great shape, although you have some scar tissue in the right ventricle, but not enough to cause cardiac arrest. The lymph in your neck is assisting the poor congested lymph in your chest. As I stated above, it could take 20-30 years to relieve the discomfort and pain in that area. I suggest that you apply the hot water bottle(s) nightly to your chest to help facilitate detoxification of lymph so that the lymph can properly remove the vaccine and metallic toxicity from your chest. That should relieve pain through each day until about 5 PM.
- On hot springs as an alternative:
Q (from Q&A session): Since lymphatics are a major problem with both of us, do you think going to a hot springs for a week (no chemicals in them) and doing the springs 3-4 times a day would give us a real boost? [Also noting: the person states their baths for 10 months did not seem to help the frozen lymphatics, and asks whether the baths helped at all, and comments about difficulty staying in the tub after one hour]
A (Aajonus): [The specific response is not captured in full in the sources provided, but Aajonus's general teaching is that full immersion in hot water at the correct temperature range is the mechanism, and natural hot springs without chemicals may be applicable if the temperatures are right.]
- On whether lymphatic congestion shows in iridology:
Q (implicit, from workshop): I find that [the white splotching] comes and goes, no, sometimes my hands are splotchy like this and other times they're not splotchy like this.
A (Aajonus): When you have that much, you've got lymphatic congestion everywhere in your system. So with your fascia you have all that water, you need to perspire it out of there, replace it with fat. Do those lymphatic baths.
- On using the hot tub versus a bathtub:
Q (implicit from workshop):
A (Aajonus): You have tremendous amounts of lymphatic congestion. You see all this stuff that's sitting under there? It's not moving. You need a hot tub. You absolutely must. Not a bathtub. You need a hot tub. [Context: this was said to a specific individual, in most other contexts Aajonus describes the protocol in terms of a bathtub, with the requirement being temperature maintenance throughout the full duration.]
- On the complete prostate cancer / fatigue recovery:
Q (implicit, Aajonus tells the story as an example):
A (Aajonus): I had a 69 year old man come to me with prostate cancer, a failing thyroid gland, and they were putting him on tons of hormones. And he was standing in line at the pharmacy and looked at all the people who were collecting their pharmaceuticals. He never lived on drugs in his whole life. And he said, I'm not doing this. So, he went home and a fluke happened. A friend of his called [and introduced him to the Primal Diet]. He started the diet, six months, started doing the hot baths about a year later, and then all of a sudden from doing the baths for three months... [and on the days he wasn't doing the hour to hour and a half bath, he did 35 to 40 minutes because once the lymph system starts neutralizing and dumping into connective tissue, you need to get it out of the connective tissue]. He was chronically fatigued, he was retired, he couldn't do a thing, wasn't thinking about doing anything else in his life except enjoying his retirement. [After the protocol:] Incredible what the body can do with the right nutrients and if you know how to clean the body properly. It can take care of itself. You need that lymphatic system working.
